Itinerary
08:00 AM: Departure from Mhamid
Meet your driver at your hotel in Mhamid (or Zagora at 07:00 AM). Begin the off-road journey, leaving the paved road behind. Cross the varied terrain of the Hamada, a flat stony desert that offers panoramic views of the horizon.
10:30 AM: The Sacred Oasis
Stop at the Sacred Oasis (Oum Lâalag), a miraculous spring surrounded by palm trees in the middle of the desert. Learn about its history as a vital stop for ancient caravans on the route to Timbuktu.
12:00 PM: Arrival at Erg Chigaga & Lunch
Reach the foot of the massive Erg Chigaga dunes. Enjoy a freshly prepared traditional Moroccan lunch (Tagine, salads, fruits) at a comfortable desert camp nestled in the dunes.
02:00 PM: Dune Exploration
Free time to explore the dunes. You can climb the highest dune for a breathtaking 360-degree view, try sandboarding, or take a 1-hour camel ride (optional) to experience the desert like a nomad.
05:30 PM: Return to Mhamid
Begin the return journey in the late afternoon, enjoying the changing colors of the desert as the sun lowers. Arrive back in Mhamid around 5:30 PM (or Zagora around 6:30 PM).

Incredible day trip!
We didn't have time for an overnight stay, so this 1-day trip was perfect. The dunes of Chigaga are massive and beautiful. The lunch at the camp was delicious and the driver was very safe and friendly. Highly recommended if you are short on time.
